Location, Location, Location

The Howard Smith Wharves site is located on the northern side of the Brisbane River, under the Story Bridge at Petrie Bight. It is 3.52 hectares in area and operated as a cargo wharf until the 1960s. It is one of the last remaining wharf sites in the city centre (http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/planning-building/local-plans/inner-city/brisbane-city-centre-master-plan/howard-smith-wharves/location/index.htm).

Surrounded by the CBD, Fortitude Valley, New Farm and Kangaroo Point this site is under-utilised . Dispite a rich history, the site of the HSW has remained undeveloped

Numbers represent parklands and the letter A All Hallows
There is little connection between the parks and schools and other facilities.
The connection between the suburbs is blurred, while inside the centre of these suburbs there is a distinctive feel but the borders or edges are hazy.

Pathways to the site are many but not well travelled. It is easiest to follow the riverpath or catch a bus and walk. There would usually be more thourough fare through the site in the form of joggers, runners and cyclists. There are great views down both sides of the river and sheltered feel to the underside of the bridge. Area had been damaged by the flood with some of the heritage decking damaged. The area is close to many residential units along the riverbank.
